SIXTEEN Romsey Primary School pupils will compete in the national titles in sports aerobics.
Twenty-six pupils competed in the Victorian AEROskools Championships held on August 3 and eight teams have made it through to the national titles.
The national championships will be held in Brisbane on September 16.
Coach Karren Baker said the results from the state championships were pleasing.
"I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm feeling overwhelmed that we are taking six teams interstate for four days.
"They're so excited, they're all buzzing. They are all asking me how many days until they can go."
This is the ninth year the school has run sports aerobics.
Last year, nine pupils competed in the national championships and three won national titles.
Sports aerobics, Ms Baker says, requires good co-ordination, strength, agility and fitness.
"It's like a mixture between gymnastics and dance. There are a number of fitness components to it, like high leg kicks and push-ups. It's a compulsory routine, it's pre-choreographed, but we can design our own formations."
Sports aerobics is run through Gymnastics Victoria.
Ms Baker said if residents or businesses were interested in sponsoring the squad and its trip to Brisbane, they could contact the school.
