SUNBURY police say reports of an attempted abduction of two young children from a football oval on Sunday afternoon have proven to be false.
As reported by the Weekly yesterday, detectives were called to Eric Boardman Reserve after two children, both under 10, said two men in a car tried to abduct them from the oval car park on Mitchells Lane about 2.30pm Sunday.
Sunbury’s Senior Sergeant Jeff Verinder said that after speaking to the alleged victims and witnesses police had concluded that the incident did not take place.
He said the community should no longer be alarmed.
Police were yet to speak to the Sunbury Lions Junior Football Club, which had issued a warning yesterday to parents to ensure children were supervised during games.
