ST ANNE'S Primary School pupils will no longer have to use buckets to water their vegie patch.
The Sunbury school will use a $1000 grant from Western Water's 'Sammy's school garden grants program' to install pipes from its water tanks to the garden.
Deputy principal Shane Crawford says pupils compiled the submission for the grant.
He says it will make life easier for the pupils, who had had to carry buckets a fair distance between the water tanks and the garden.
"We've had the vegie garden for about two years and we're looking at putting in fruit trees, too."
Mr Crawford said the grade 2 pupils were also looking at buying some plots in the community garden next door.
He said the gardening program was starting to evolve.
"It's wonderful for the kids to see all their hard work paying off.
"We sell the vegies to the parents and are looking at supplying them to community groups to use in their cooking programs."
Sunbury Primary School and Sunbury Heights Primary School also received $1000 each from the program.
