Solitary win for Sunbury

27 Oct, 2009 03:00 AM
SUNBURY has coughed up top spot in the Royal Victorian Bowls Association premier division with a 100-89 loss to new top dogs Moonee Ponds at home on Saturday.

The 2009-10 surprise packet has joined four other teams with a 3-1 win-loss record as a logjam has been created after four rounds.

The only joy for Sunbury, second with 53 points, came from the Michael Vesikko rink, which wiped out Barrie Lester with a 30-15 scoreline.

Sunbury's Graeme Bridge and his rink were licking his wounds after a 34-14 thrashing at the hands of Australian international Mark Jacobsen.

Sunbury faces Melbourne on the road on Saturday.

In the Victorian Ladies Bowls Association, Sunbury suffered a 22-shot loss to Yarraville-Footscray to drop to seventh on the ladder.
