SUNBURY is coming to terms with back-to-back bowls relegations after one more defeat ended its Bowls Victoria Saturday pennant season.
A year after being relegated from the Premier division, Sunbury finished bottom of division 1 section 2 after losing to Lalor 2 at the weekend.
Sunbury went into the final round already mathematically down and, even if it had been alive, an emphatic 18-to-zero Ivanhoe win against Keilor meant the gap between safety and relegation ended up a big one.
Sunbury's 4-75 to 14-84 defeat left it 10th and last with 86 points, behind Keilor (90), Glenroy 121 and Ivanhoe 122.
In division 3 section 1, Sunbury finished ninth on the table with a 2-71 to 16-73 loss against Werribee RSL 3 to end its season.
In division 3 section 2, Sunbury is headed for the finals after sealing the minor premiership with a 16-73 to 2-71 win against Lalor 4.
Sunbury's 218 points made it a run-away winner of the section from Keilor 2 on 198.
In division 5 section 2, Sunbury narrowly missed out on finals in spite of finishing the home-and-away campaign with a 16-103 to 2-81 win against Glenroy 4.
Sunbury's 169 points were good enough for fifth behind fourth-placed Clifton Park 2 (185).
In division 6 section 2, Sunbury finished seventh on the table after a 2-70 to 16-81 loss against Gladstone Park 2 to end the season.
In division 8 section 2, Sunbury finished sixth after a 6-82 to 12-84 loss to Princes Park Carlton.
The Australian Open of bowls is being played at Darebin this week with singles finals on Friday.
