Sunbury United goes down

24 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
SUNBURY United's form slump in state league division 3 north-west continued at the weekend as Melbourne University Rangers defeated the promotion contender 2-0.

An early red card was no hindrance for Melbourne University as it strangled Sunbury's attacking moves and made the most of its own chances in front of goal.

Sunbury has now won just one of its last six matches, picking up just four points along the way.

However the tight nature of the league means the club still occupies second position on the ladder, albeit with third-placed Geelong and sixth-placed Cairnlea having games in hand.

The ladder with three rounds and one catch-up game remaining is: 1. Keilor Park, 35 points, 2. Sunbury United 33 points, 3. Geelong 32 points (positive 10 goal difference, game in hand), 4. Yarraville Glory 32 (+4), 5. Westgate 31, 6. Cairnlea 29 (game in hand) 7. Hume United 27.

Sunbury hosts Hume United at Langama Park from 3pm, Saturday.
