MACEDON'S hard-running rover Aaron Blade may have topped the votes in the prestigious Percy Bowen Medal - the highest individual award in the Riddell District Football League's Melton Toyota Cup. But it didn't guarantee him glory in the club's best and fairest award.
Centreman Darren Goodwin took out the top prize from half-back/ruck-rover Tim Dettman with Blade in third place.
The Cats enjoyed some fine moments during the 2009 season under coach Brendan Lee.
But they were left to lament a poor display against Diggers Rest in a cut-throat elimination final at MacPherson Park in Melton.
Lee and his players are looking forward to bigger and better things next year.
Winger Michael McQualter and rover George Hilary won the reserves and under-18 best and fairest awards respectively.
Meanwhile, Kelly Nicholas won the A-grade netball side's best and fairest with Emma Hyland and Janelle Bennett coming up trumps in B and C-grade.
Senior assistant coach Aaron Christiansen was a popular winner of the best clubperson award.
Lee was quick to give him a pat on the back.
"He does anything and everything around the club," he said.
The Macedon Football and Netball Club held its presentation night at Macedon Views.
Club president Gary Harley spoke passionately about the future in front of 200 guests.
"We're heading in the right direction on and off the field," he said.
