THERE aren't many football teams that kick one goal in a half of football and still believe unwaveringly they will win.
But it's this belief that makes the Sunbury Women's Football Club champions.
The Lions took out the Victorian Women's Football League north-west conference grand final by 29 points against Lalor Park Stars at the weekend to complete an unbeaten season and go back-to-back in the division.
Sunbury kicked just one goal to half-time but six majors to Lalor Park's one after the long break completed a 7.12 (52) to 4.1 (25) victory.
Attacking the wind-assisted end of Coburg City Oval, Sunbury held Lalor Park scoreless in the last quarter and kicked four unanswered goals to turn a two-point game into an emphatic win.
Samantha Radlof led the scoring with three goals, including the first major of the final term which extended the Lions' lead to eight points.
Natasha Hardy won the best on ground medal, while Radlof, centre half-back Jasmine Daly, running onballer Kelly Mensforth, Cheryl McDiarmid and Lisa Kirby were the best.
"The team knew we had the legs to overrun Lalor, in the second quarter we could see their fitness dropping and we know we can play four quarters of football," Sunbury captain Catriona Goldsworthy said.
Sunbury coach Matt Geurts said the off-field mateship and culture had been reflected in the team's unity on the park.
