RIDDELL passed its first major test of the Riddell District Football League finals as it outlasted Lancefield by 12 points in the qualifying final at the weekend.
A bag of four goals for Michael Allen and top performance in the ruck from Brayden Allen delivered a 13.6 (84) to 11.6 (72) win to the minor premier.
The reigning premier must now face Diggers Rest in the first semi-final while the Bombers and Sunbury Kangaroos will play this weekend for a grand final berth.
Lancefield enjoyed the lead at various stages, but Riddell's commitment to the contest reversed the deficit in a hard-fought second half.
Asked about the win, Riddell coach Matt Power gave little away, saying he was just happy to have made the most of his team's first-place finish and to advance to a shot at direct qualification for the grand final.
"It was a high intensity game, a pressure game, higher than it's been all year and in the end we got what we came for," he said.
"Michael Allen had to work for his four goals. Nothing was easy on the day. There's no time to rest, it's straight on to Sunbury
Kangaroos." Haydn Ross kicked three goals for Riddell and John Baird two, while Lancefield's top scorers were John Baker and Nathan Carroll with three each.
Daniel Rebbechi, Tom Waters and Leigh Erwin were the Tigers' best.
"Lancefield had a lot of good runners and dominated the stoppages early. But we lifted our work-rate, Brayden Allen rucked alone all day. Nick Ash stuck to his task at full back."
Diggers Rest eliminated Macedon in the weekend's other final, rolling the Cats 16.5 (101) to 12.8 (80).
Shane Marchewka was the Burras' best with five goals. Stuart Clarke and Jason Davies (two goals) were other better players.
