SUNBURY Lions stormed clear at the top of the Ballarat Football League with a 67-point win over second-placed Redan at Clarke Oval on Saturday.
The Lions dominated the early exchanges, kicking four goals in the first quarter while Redan managed only one.
Redan reduced the deficit to just three points midway through the second term, but the home side rallied and extended its lead to 25-points by half-time.
The Lions continued to attack in the second half and finished with a comfortable victory 20.17 (137) to 10.10 (70).
Young Lion Peter Robertson was exceptional for his side, booting eight goals and four behinds while Niall Mcgovern was best on ground.
Sunbury coach Mark Power was delighted with the result and called on his players to maintain their form until seasons' end.
"They [Redan] won the premiership last season so it's good for our confidence that we got a win over them," Power said.
"But you don't win premierships in June and we need to keep improving if we want to stay where we are at the moment."
Next up, the Lions face a relatively easy task when they welcome lowly Sabastopol to Clarke Oval.
"We want to come out and play the same brand of football we played against Redan. If we do that we'll win," Power said.
