THEY may have been coming off a 140-point defeat and been missing 300 games of experience but neither obstacle could stop Gisborne from beating Strathfieldsaye on Saturday.
The Bulldogs posted their second win of the Bendigo Football League season by coming from behind to win 15.7 (97) to 12.11(83).
Gisborne is eighth after the win with two wins and four losses, with the worst percentage of four teams from fifth to eighth with the same win-loss record.
The Bulldogs trailed at every break, 10 points at the last change, before kicking five goals to one in the final term.
With captain Ollie Messaoudi and key player Matt McKenzie out injured, Luke Saunders leaving the game after being knocked out left Gisborne without three of its stars.
But to the delight of coach Ty Elliott, his group rallied and seized the chance to overrun Strathfieldsaye.
"It was a great win for the young group, at one stage we were four or five goals down and we didn't have Luke Saunders for the last quarter.
"The guys stayed up and played their part. We had some bad deficiencies last week but sometimes a young team will be inconsistent. We worked all week on our accountability and contesting the ball."
Gisborne took the lead after 15 minutes of the last quarter and didn't look back.
Tom May's three final-quarter goals were the catalyst for Gisborne, he finished with four for the match while rebounding defender Casey Summerfield joined him in the best along with Shaun Comerford and Ryan Dillon.
Kyneton remains ninth with one win for the year after a visit from Golden Square ended in a 112-point loss.
Kyneton plays away at Strathfieldsaye on Saturday.
