GISBORNE coach Simon Harman says he will be taking Tuesday night's Twenty20 grand final showdown with Rupertswood "very seriously" as he hopes to add more piece of silverware to the club's ever-growing trophy cabinet.
The Dragons are in red-hot form heading into the final and Harman said the current McIntyre Cup holders were "pretty confident" of going all the way in the competition.
"We're taking this very seriously and the players have all been keen to play and desperately want to win this match," he said.
"I'm not to sure who [Rupertswood] will put out but I'm pretty confident we will win the trophy."
As to the Dragons' squad for the final, Harman said he would continue to "give lots of guys a go" and the team would not be made up solely of the club's "best players".
"It's a much-changed side and there are a lot of players coming in from all of our different grades so it's not necessarily our best side which will play," Harman said.
"We want to give lots of guys a go and this competition has allowed us to do that."
Much like Gisborne, Rupertswood has fielded younger players to gain some experience from the popular Twenty20 competition, but player-coach Bert Van den Heuvel said his side would also take the final "very seriously".
"We approached the competition wanting to play well and also have fun and our main focus has always been on the regular cricket season," Van den Heuvel said.
"Now that we're in the grand final we will be taking it very seriously and we will go in with a strong side."
Van den Heuvel will make one change to his squad, bringing in specialist wicketkeeper Chris Ryan while the rest of the team will comprise young players who the coach thinks will be capable of doing the job.
"We've only made one change to the team which beat Sunbury two weeks ago but generally we have gone in with strong sides each week," Van den Heuvel said.
"We have a young cricket club in general so if we get more cricket into the younger players it will be better for the club.
"This competition has worked really well for us."
As for his side's chances in the final, Van den Heuvel said he felt both sides were "evenly matched".
"I don't know what sort of side they will turn up but I think in this competition we are fairly evenly matched," he said. "It only takes one bloke to get hold of a big score for one side which decide the match."
The final will start at 6pm at Gardiner Reserve.
