INDIAN cricket came to the Macedon Ranges when a touring side from Kerala played a twenty-20 match against Hesket at Hanging Rock oval.
Here as part of their cricket tour of Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, the Kerala side consists of former Indian internationals and Ranji Cup players and helped produce a thrilling match.
Hesket player Eane Whitton said: "We batted first and made 8-155. They then batted and made the score with nine wickets down and four balls to spare."
Matt Chivell top scored for Hesket with 25 and Peter Manser chipped in with 23.
While the Indians reached their target, it was the Hesket side that provided the highlights.
Whitton bowled out tour leader and former international J.K Mahendra, while Manser and Eris Cashman took sensational catches.
The highlights continued off the field, with some of the match broadcast live on Indian television. "They showed some of the match and presentations on television," Whitton said. "They spoke to some of the players during the presentations along with board members from the touring party."
As the sides celebrated the match that was held in good spirits, there was a further surprise for the touring side.
"Matthew Hayden called the Kerala side on a direct link after the game ... he wanted to congratulate them as he does a lot of charity in their local area."
While the touring party of 30 continues on to another location to play some more cricket, it isn't the end of the relationship.
"The Indian board and the president of the Kerala cricket association have invited the club to visit India in January next year for a tour," Whitton said.
"We already have 20 guys wanting to go over there."
