GDCA triumphs in Bendigo Country Week

24 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
GISBORNE District Cricket Association enjoyed Bendigo Country Week success, beating the Benalla District Cricket Association in the division2 final on Friday.

GDCA took out the John Turner Memorial Shield by making 6-132 in reply to Benalla's 131.

Scott Fuller's 5-20 and Heath Boffey's 2-18 kept wickets coming on a regular basis for the GDCA, while Matthew Bell (31), Warren Else (48) and Brett Gardner (32) put GDCA in a winning position in the chase.

A collapse of 5-26 hollowed out the GDCA middle order, but Michael Sammut and Todd Keenan were able to score the winning runs.

GDCA beat Maryborough, Northern District and Wimmera-Mallee to make the final in spite of a Wednesday defeat to Emu Valley.

Else scored 113 against Northern District in the GDCA's best batting performance, while Fuller's 5-20 in the final was the week's best bowling haul.
