ACCORDING to their website, the Clarkefield Brumbies were formed in 2002 to "have a great time and win cricket matches" and it seems the club is staying true to its motto with its in-form senior side heading into the North West Cricket Association finals series.
The Brumbies have only made the finals in the Keith Stringer Shield once before in their eight years but the atmosphere around the club is one of calm. Coach Chris Lewis said his players were "looking forward to it".
"Everything is good around the club and we have all our players available and they want to cap off a long season with a win in the finals.
"We are not overly confident that we can win it and we are glad to be involved in the series but hopefully it all goes our way. We've had a good season so far and it will be great if we can add a trophy to it in a few weeks' time."
The Brumbies have been given an extra slice of motivation to win the final as player and club founder Graham Bonney has been ruled out of playing cricket again due to a leg injury and the club is keen to send him off on a good note.
"Graham was shattered when he was told he can't play and he is a great bloke around the club and I'm sure the players want to send him off in the right way," Lewis said.
"Although it's not a good thing that he's injured I think our players will use it as motivation and it might help us get across the line."
As for key players heading into the final, Lewis believes batsman David Falzon will play a massive role even though he has been disappointed with his form since Christmas.
"Looking at David's statistics he has hit around 500 runs and has also collected around 25 wickets which would put him as the favourite to win the most valuable player award for the season," Lewis said.
"He has been down with the bat lately but I'm sure he will step up at the right time and make the difference for us.
"We also have five or six blokes who are fantastic bowlers, including Matthew Williams and Kevin Korp, which gives us a lot depth and hopefully it all comes together in the finals."
