KYNETON United's bats lasted until the 50th over against Castlemaine United at the weekend before wilting against stronger opposition.

Kyneton took three wickets to the sheds at stumps but is in danger of a heavy defeat after day one of the Castlemaine District Cricket Association A grade match. Kyneton posted 129 batting first with Castlemaine United making 3-67 in reply.

In A reserve, Malmsbury is at risk of outright defeat against Harcourt after being rolled for 117 in 34 overs.

Kyle Walsh made 55 for Malmsbury at the top of the order but wickets fell quickly after the opening partnership was broken.

Harcourt was 1-207 at stumps.

Elsewhere, Trentham posted 248 on the opening day against Campbells Creek.

Trentham's Paul Keane (80) and Mark Reid (53) were the top scorers.
