SUNBURY Jets dropped a ladder position at the weekend as it split its Big V Basketball division 1 double header.
The Jets lost to Whittlesea 102-85 on Saturday night before responding with a 96-65 win against La Trobe University on Sunday afternoon.
The results mean Sunbury sits ninth on the division 1 ladder with seven wins and nine losses, just two wins behind third-placed Southern Peninsula and a comfortable three wins ahead of 10th-placed La Trobe.
Whittlesea blitzed Sunbury in the first half 60-39 on Saturday night before the Jets narrowly edged the last two quarters.
Jason Dirkx blitzed Sunbury with 44 points, while the Jets high numbers went to Matt Smith with 19 points, Nathan Sellwood with 17 and Alex Bogart-King with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Sunbury broke open Sunday's match against La Trobe with a 24-9 third term to turn a seven-point half time lead into a 22-point advantage.
Sellwood scored 20 points and Ryan Illingworth 19 to go with eight assists.
Sunbury's women were also beaten by Whittlesea on Saturday night, going down 56-48.
The loss leaves the Lady Jets seventh on the women's division 1 ladder with seven wins and nine losses.
