A CLUB that provides recreational activities for children and adults with disabilities had a fun-packed Christmas Party last weekend.
The Social Activities, Fun and Respite Integrated Club (SAFARI) is run through Windarring, a Central Highlands association for people with disabilities.
The club held a traditional Christmas party at the Gisborne Mechanics Hall last Saturday.
Highlights included a treasure hunt through the park, a lunch and craft activities including making herb planters and Christmas cards for family members.
A magic show and a visit from Santa finished off the festivities.
Club co-ordinator Donna Gook said the party would not be possible without the support of volunteers and donations from local businesses and sponsors.
"It's a celebration of the year we've had and a chance to celebrate Christmas and recognise the volunteers."
She said the club had 36 volunteers but was looking for more. Anyone aged 17 or over with a positive attitude towards helping others can become a volunteer.
"We could always do with more. There's not an expectation to do something every month. It can be occasionally, bi-monthly or monthly. Anything anyone can do is always valued."
Ms Gook said volunteers would be involved in activities such as horse-riding, a ferry ride, bowling or swimming.
"It's not just a staff-client relationship. SAFARI offers something different to that. The emphasis is on fun, enjoyment and developing friendships."
She said the club provided the opportunity for people interested in volunteering to attend one or two outings before committing as a volunteer.
