SUNBURY psychologist and celebrant Robyn Mills has become Australia's answer to the UK singing sensation Susan Boyle.
Ms Mills recently won a television competition to find Australia's answer to the British spinster who stunned the world with her singing.
The Sunbury resident beat hundreds of entries in the Searching for the next Susan Boyle competition.
Ms Mills, a mother of three, made her television appearance last Friday.
"Surprisingly, I wasn't nervous," Ms Mills said.
"It was very exciting to be in the studio with the lights and smoke. I got to spend the day with Jonathan Welsh from the Choir of Hard Knocks, which was fantastic."
Although no stranger to television, Ms Mills said this time was different because she had given up her day job six months ago to devote herself to singing.
She made her debut as a finalist in the Housewife Superstar competition hosted by Bert Newton about 20 years ago.
She then made another appearance three years ago as part of the Sunbury Divas in another competition called Battle of the Choirs.
"I decided that without singing I would die with a broken heart ... I guess I lacked the confidence in myself before," Ms Mills said.
"Now I want to take it as far as it will go.
"Three years ago I sang at my daughter's wedding, and a friend of mine was swept away.
"She paid for a singing lesson, and I built up from there.
"Singing opens my heart, it brings joy, happiness and love to people."
As her prize, Ms Mills will have her music recorded and released by Warner music on iTunes.
