Sunbury Downs College students win university scholarship

15 Dec, 2009 08:23 AM
TWO grade 10 students from Sunbury Downs College have won a Melbourne University Kwong Lee Dow scholarship.

They are Melissa Pangbourne and Breony Richards.

The Kwong Lee Dow young scholars program supports high-achieving Victorian and select New South Wales and South Australian border school students.

The program offers opportunities for students to interact with the university and each other, with substantial benefits for students who subsequently enrol at the University of Melbourne.

"I'm thrilled and proud of Breony for receiving the scholarship; she works really hard," Breony's mum, Lorraine Richards, said.

"We don't know yet if she will eventually select Melbourne University.

"I just want her to be successful and happy with whatever she chooses," Mrs Richards said.

Breony has a passion for quilting. She won the "best exhibit" award at the Royal Melbourne Show in September and is a talented flautist as well.
