SUNBURY Downs College students got in early to pitch in for this year's Good Friday Appeal.
Last Wednesday, student representative council members hosted a barbecue to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital.
School captain and SRC representative Jarrod Bell said: "We decided that our school has had a lot of students who have been helped by the Royal Children's Hospital and thought we'd give back to those who have helped us."
School vice-captain Emily Healey said each sub-school (junior, middle and senior) ran a barbecue and casual clothes day each year to raise money for a chosen charity.
"The whole SRC was at a sub-school meeting to discuss which charity the senior school fund-raisers would support and thought the Good Friday Appeal was relevant since it's coming up," she said. The second fund-raiser will be the casual clothes day on March 19, which costs students a gold coin.
SRC co-ordinator Casey Ferris said all students were fantastic on the day.
"The barbecue was a really big hit. The participation of not only the SRC, but other kids willing to help and kids supporting was great. There was a queue 25 metres long all lunchtime."
The SRC is also raising money to improve the school's facilities, including basketball rings and backboards.
"We are encouraging them [students] to have ownership of their school," Ms Ferris said.
