THE Gisborne SES unit is looking for new members to help cater to the growing population of the Macedon Ranges.
SES public relations and fund-raising officer Di Dale, a member for eight years, said the unit aimed to boost its membership of 28 at its annual recruitment drive on Monday.
"We are looking for people from all walks of life and those who want to share the experience of being involved in a professional volunteer service.
"We have a special need for day-time responders."
SES volunteers respond to incidents including road crashes, storm and floods, land searches, earthquakes and four-wheel drive rescues, and provide ground support for the Country Fire Authority.
Ms Dale said the nationally recognised training was provided at no cost , enabling members to learn new skills and enhance their life experience.
"There's plenty of duties to be performed and it does not necessarily have to be all operational. People can be involved in the communications process or welfare, which involves cooking, ensuring members are fed during storm operations which can last up to three days."
Ms Dale said the Gisborne SES unit had a large area to cover including Gisborne, Gisborne South, Bullengarook, Riddells Creek, Macedon, Mount Macedon and parts of Cherokee and Clarkefield.
"We live in an area where we have extreme conditions ranging from cold and snow in winter to hot and dry in summer. With those conditions and the
growing population, there is an increased need for more members."
The Gisborne SES annual recruitment drive is at SES headquarters, 33 Robertson Street, at 7pm on Monday. Details: Di, 54283037.
