A SMALL intimate gig is not what Keith Potger is used to.
But there is a part of it he loves.
Before he teams up with The New Seekers for an Australian tour with Andre Rieu later this year, Potger will hit the Jubilee Hall for a solo gig in Macedon.
With his 12-string Maton guitar, he will entertain audiences with acoustic performances on September 3-4.
He will also play at the Kyneton Daffodil Festival on September 8, alongside friend Marcie Jones.
"The buzzes that you get from a big gig is great, but sometimes those smaller intimate audiences are fantastic as well, because you get a chance to meet and greet afterwards and listen to people's stories, which I love," he says.
Potger, who lives in the Macedon Ranges, released solo albums in 2004, 2007 and his third in April this year.
He told the Telegraph there was not one stand-alone method to his songwriting technique.
"Sometimes I write the whole song on my own, the lyrics and the melody, and sometimes I get given poems that I put music to and occasionally I collaborate with other people."
His musical inclination came from his father.
"In his days he played the banjo-ukulele, which was very popular in those days. I started playing guitar when I was in my early teens and gradually developed a love for it and writing melodies. Music is very consuming, but very energising, too."
Potger's wife Nicola is also a fine singer. He hinted at a duet.
"We haven't got to the stage where we're performing songs in front of people yet, just in front of each other. She's a very good singer."
Potger will reunite with other Seekers members to perform alongside Rieu in an Australian tour in October. In the meantime he will fly to the Netherlands to rehearse with Rieu and his orchestra.
His solo performances at Jubilee Hall, Smith Street, Macedon will begin at 7.30pm on September 3 and 4.
Tickets also available at the door.
