Science idea grows wings

31 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
RIDDELLS Creek Primary School pupils have made paper planes for a school tournament.

To celebrate National Science Week, pupils learnt the science of paper aeroplanes - what forces are in play, the ins and outs of high and low pressure, gravity and thrust.

Science teacher Ben Coady said the entire school became enthralled with paper aeroplanes.

"The students were transfixed by the aeroplanes we made. Once students in other classes saw the aeroplanes, it wasn't long before the school insisted on doing them in science.

"The preps and grade one's found the folding tough, but they got the hang of it.

"The idea struck a chord with the parents as many of them recalled making paper aeroplanes when they were young.

"There was a huge nostalgia factor to the whole event, which was really great."
