MACEDON Ranges has received $947,000 in Federal Government funding that will be used to fast-track 43 infrastructure projects across the shire.
The one-off funding is part of a regional and local community infrastructure program aimed at bolstering local economic development and supporting jobs in communities.
Council chief executive Peter Johnston welcomed the announcement last week..
"This funding means a great deal to local communities. Not only will this funding enable new construction and improvements to existing infrastructure throughout the shire, the projects will also help stimulate the local economy and boost employment opportunities."
All projects must begin by May 30 and be completed by September 30. Highlights of the diverse list of projects include disability access and air-conditioning for a range of council buildings, improved sports facilities and more than $200,000 in upgrades to footpaths.
Lancefield Park was one of the big winners, receiving $54,000 for new playground equipment.
Management committee member Bruce Notman said a group of mothers had identified the need for improved playground amenities in the town.
Lancefield resident Alison Cusack, who is part of Cobaw Community Health's Strengthening Families Lancefield Working Group, said the group was "flabbergasted, but absolutely thrilled" with the news.
"At the moment there is absolutely nothing in the playground for toddlers. It is inadequate and outdated and the little ones have nowhere to play," she said.
Riddells Creek Senior Citizens Club secretary Rosemary Wischnewski hoped the group's $17,000 funding would go "a long way" to improve disability access at the centre.
Riddells Creek Recreation Reserve management committee member Graham Stewart said its $17,000 share would cover the cost of connecting the recycled water supply to a holding tank.
