Preschoolers turn on water wise tips

10 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
WESTERN Water is helping young people learn about the value of water in their homes.

The authority launched a free water conservation program which is aimed at all 70 kindergartens and childcare centres in the organisation's region.

The Water is Precious program is a presentation for preschool children. It includes a water-use audit and water-saving retrofit for kindergartens and childcare centres. Western Water staff visited Forever Friends and Step Ahead childcare centres in Sunbury. They had a giant book, puppets and music to teach the children about water.

The presentation focused on simple things that children can do in their everyday lives to save water.

Each child received a free CD and a small book.

A plumber also visited to check the centres' taps, give advice on water saving and assess the water use.

"This new program builds on our award-winning, popular primary school programs," Western Water managing director John Wilkinson said.
