TRIBUTES flowed as friends, family and classmates gathered to bid an emotional farewell to Gisborne teenager Simon Gardner at Braemar College last week.
The 14-year-old was killed while riding a trailbike on a Gisborne South property on August 8.
The service, held at Haywood Hall on Braemar College's Woodend campus, was attended by about 800 of Simon's classmates, friends and family members who gathered to say goodbye to the year 9 student.
Beautiful Day by U2 played at the start of the service before family members read tributes and Simon's brother Nathan played the guitar.
On the school's website, acting principal Russell Deer said the college community had been shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss.
"He was a vibrant and well-liked member of year 9, and will be sorely missed by everyone at Braemar College.
"Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this time. We have been further strengthened by the support of the Macedon Ranges local community."
At the end of the service, Simon's father Peter led a motorcycle procession past a guard of honour formed by Braemar College students.
