THE Upper Maribyrnong Catchment Group will mark 21 years of landcare in Darraweit Guim with a celebration of its history this weekend.
The group is holding an oral history forum in the town to celebrate the milestone since it became an 'official' landcare group for the area.
A panel of locals and ex-locals will provide insight into how the town and its surrounds have changed over the years, covering topics including transportation, school, shopping, sports activities and landscape.
President Fletcher Bakewell said the forum would be an opportunity for residents to learn about their town's history.
"There will be a lot of people whose families have been here for a long time, some for five generations, so I'm sure there will be some fantastic stories."
Mr Bakewell, president for four years, said the forum was also a way to acknowledge the contribution the group had made.
He said the group had handed out up to 200,000 trees to landholders in the area through a tree projects program and the committee had planted at least another 12,000, mostly around Darraweit Guim Primary School.
"It's amazing we are still going. It's not easy. In the early days you have enthusiastic people who are committed but it gets hard to keep people involved. So there is a lot to celebrate."
The free two-hour history forum is at the Darraweit Guim War Memorial Hall, Bolinda Road, Darraweit Guim, from 3pm.
