TEN-year-old Sunbury performer Jack Lyall is on the way to living out his dream of stardom.
He has been performing in Love Never Dies in Melbourne since May and has been nominated for a Broadway World Australia award for the best young actor under 25.
"It's a really big honour for me to be nominated. I don't know who did it, but I was very excited to find out," says Jack (pictured), who describes himself as a "triple threat" - he acts, sings and dances.
Jack is youngest of the 13 nominees. His role as Gustav in Andrew Lloyd Webber's sequel of the Phantom of the Opera is the biggest in his short career.
"It's quite a big step from where he was," Dionne Lyall says of her son, who started dancing at Flashdance Performing Arts studio in Sunbury when he was seven and fell in love with musical theatre.
In addition to training in theatre, vocals and dancing, he received vocal lessons from Sunbury Divas director Adam Przewlocki.
Jack, a grade 4 pupil, attends Killara Primary School once a week and for the rest of the week is tutored at the Regent Theatre with other young performers.
"I have a pretty good handle on it all," he says.
"It's fun and you get to be with people you wouldn't normally be with and learn things that you can't at school. It's a good experience."
He hopes to continue performing in stage productions.
Mrs Lyall admits to having initially been worried about her son's workload but says he's taken to life as a performer with ease.
"It's not a normal thing for 10-year-old to do, but he's definitely coping very well. Time made me realise he loves it and it's been fine for him."

Voting closes on December 31.
