SUNBURY'S Jay Catania and Lauren Booth, both 25, will never forget their love story.
Jay proposed to Lauren while she was hundreds of feet up in the air.
On August 17, Jay took Lauren to the Sunbury airfield for a surprise. After arriving there, he told her she was to have a flying lesson - but not with him.
Once Lauren was airborne, the pilot circled over the property of Jay's uncle where she saw a huge banner on the ground below them that read 'Marry me Lauren', with Jay standing next to it.
"We'd talked about getting engaged, but I did not pick it at all, especially because it was a Tuesday. I didn't expect him to go to such lengths. It was an awesome surprise," Lauren said. "I started crying and kept saying, 'I can't believe this' ... Jay is romantic but I wouldn't have thought to that extreme. A lot of people have said he's made it hard for the rest of them."
Jay said the proposal took about three weeks to plan and organise.
"She'd always said she wanted something special and exciting. I knew she'd say yes; I think she'd been hinting at it for a while," he said.
The couple have been together for almost five years. They met while studying at Sunbury Downs College and got together soon after leaving school.
Lauren said they were planning to wed in 2012. They are having an engagement party in October to coincide with the fifth anniversary as a couple.
