Liquor thieves hunted

29 Sep, 2009 04:00 AM
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after more than $20,000 worth of alcohol was stolen from the FoodWorks supermarket in Aitken Street, Gisborne, last week.

Detective Sergeant Shane Brundell , of the Gisborne CIU, said the incident took place about 2.30am on September 22.

The front door of the supermarket was smashed and a large quantity of spirits was stolen.

"Although the offenders were only inside the shop for just on two and a half minutes, they were able to steal about $22,000 worth of alcohol," Detective Sergeant Brundell said.

"The volume of spirits stolen was massive and included just about every brand available. Any spirits being offered cheaply could be relevant."

He said six men aged in their late teens to early 20s were seen leaving the scene in two vehicles.

No further description has been provided for the men or the vehicles used.

Information to Gisborne CIU, 54282811 or Crime Stoppers, 1800333000.
