RESIDENTS of Elizabeth Drive in Sunbury say they are tired of vandal attacks on their properties on Saturday nights.
Pensioner Hamilton Penny, who lives at the northern end of the street, said his letterbox was regularly damaged. Last weekend the sensor light at the front of his house was targeted and damaged.
His neighbour's letterbox was also destroyed, forcing him to build a brick one.
"It's been going on for years, they seem to have inherited one from the other," Mr Penny said.
"I've told the police but they're busy boys, they say 'we've got it everywhere' [and] all they can do is drive past at night."
Mr Penny said vandalism had been going on for more than five years and, if it was not his house, it was a neighbour's.
Vandals also knocked on his door in the middle of the night.
"I've seen them one night knocking on the door, but I never come out. I don't go near them. They've thrown empty beer bottles on the lawn, too. I don't take any notice, just ignoring them is the best thing to do."
Sunbury's Senior Sergeant Barry Jenks said police were aware of the vandalism and did their best to "keep on top of it".
Senior Sergeant Jenks said there were problems along Elizabeth Drive and police were keeping an eye on the area, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
"If residents have youth causing trouble, give us a ring so we can get there.
''In the busy thoroughfares [such as] Elizabeth Drive, Gap Road, even Riddell Road, there is this problem and we want to hear from the public to let us know when it's happening.
''Don't go out and challenge them, if they've broken a bit of the fence paling then they have a weapon."
