SUNBURY resident Mandii Weir has found there is a demand for fake cake.
The stay-at-home mum of two boys says she began making faux cupcakes five years ago when her son Cooper was born.
"I used to make birthday cakes in a bakery and was trying to find a creative outlet.
"I began with a batch of 10, now I make over 100 a year," Ms Weir said.
"People use the cupcakes to decorate their cake stands. They don't want to have their pretty things hidden away."
The cupcakes are made to order, and customers find their way to her pink and white decorated home by word of mouth.
"My house looks ordinary from the outside," Ms Weir said.
"It's ironic considering I'm the only woman in a house full of boys.
"Each cupcake weighs about 500 grams and is made of plaster of paris or moulding clay and decorated with German cut-glass glitter.
"They are not really toys for children to play with, but rather a vision of cupcake delight."
