Land forum welcomes residents

28 Apr, 2009 04:00 AM
HUME Council is holding a forum to seek public feedback on its sustainable land management and weed control strategy.

Topics for next month's forum include land management in rural areas, invasive plants, pest animals, land degradation issues and local education programs.

Hume Mayor Jack Ogilvie said about 70per cent of Hume was classified as rural or semi-rural.

"Landholders face a range of ongoing challenges, including the spread of pest plants and animals, climatic change, reduced productivity, the loss of native vegetation and increased development.

"Together we need to understand these pressures that inhibit sustainable land management, which is what the strategy and community forum is all about."

The forum is on from 7-9pm Wednesday, May 13. To register, phone 92052200.
