MACEDON Ranges Council has reversed its decision to close Macedon Kindergarten during term one next year due to the increased risk of bushfires.

At a meeting last week, councillors voted to

continue services at the site with a new policy on closing.

It will close on severe, extreme and catastrophic days and any other total-fire-ban days.

A move to Swinburne Avenue Kindergarten in Gisborne, as previously planned, would have affected the 48 four-year-olds and 18 three-year-olds enrolled at the Macedon Kindergarten next year.

A community forum attended by about 50 people was held on December 10, with many parents expressing concerns about the move.

Mayor Rob Guthrie said the council had reconsidered its decision based on a detailed presentation by the kindergarten committee at the forum.

"We have listened to the community and that is what we are there to do," he said.

Cr Guthrie said the initial decision had been based on the council's concern about the continuity of education for the children at the kindergarten.
