Hospital set for upgrade

26 May, 2009 04:00 AM
THE Sunbury Day Hospital will receive $6.4million in State Government funding for upgrades, according to Health Minister Daniel Andrews.

The money will go towards two new operating theatre suites and recovery services for minor same-day surgery.

The upgrades will provide residents with specialist medical care, including same-day medical procedures for renal dialysis and chemotherapy, and a range of specialist clinics for diagnostics, pathology and rehabilitation.

The completed upgrade will create a Sunbury Healthcare precinct by combining the Sunbury Day Hospital with the Sunbury Community Health Centre.

Consultation on the plans is scheduled to start this week, with construction expected to begin later this year.

Mr Andrews said the Government had committed more than $21million for the overall project.

The project is expected to create up to 12 jobs during construction.

During his visit to Sunbury last Wednesday, Mr Andrews also opened the refurbished Sunbury ambulance station on Shields Street.
