HUME mayor Geoff Porter has joined police in urging residents to be safe on roads during the Easter break.
"The Easter holiday period should be a time of joy and fun with family and friends, and we are all responsible for keeping the roads safe, and saving lives," Cr Porter said.
Hume District Inspector Tony Ryan said extra police would be out in force, targeting problem areas, including Pascoe Vale Road and the Western Ring Road.
"We have been putting an extra police presence on the streets and that has been fielding some good feedback."
One of the council's top priorities is road safety, and working in close partnership with VicRoads.
With new laws in force from November last year about the type of child restraints, residents with children are being encouraged to take up the offer of a subsidised child restraint check.
"The auto centres can also install any additional seatbelts required and will provide advice on appropriate restraints for each child," Cr Porter said.
Residents can pick up a voucher at any of Hume Council's customer service centres which will entitle them to a $15 discount off the total price of the check. Details: 92052200.
