WITH the state budget on its way, the Calder Action Group wants assurance the Government will fund Taylors Lakes' Kings Road interchange to the Calder Freeway.
It has written to Premier John Brumby asking for delivery of the State Government's share to the jointly funded infrastructure project.
During the 2007 election campaign, the Howard government promised to dish out $30million for the project, group president Russell Mowatt said. "All we're trying to do at the moment is ensure that the State Government comes up with the other 50per cent," Mr Mowatt said.
"Over the years, there's been approximately eight people killed on that section of road and I think it would be fair to say there's been hundreds of accidents. You have a freeway that's supposed to be 100kmh, but it's 80kmh at the moment and you've got people making right-hand turns over the oncoming traffic, which isn't really acceptable in terms of a freeway."
State Government media adviser Chris Owner said the Government was finalising the 2009-10 state budget.
"We cannot rule anything in or out ahead of the budget, which will be released next month," Mr Owner said.
The CAG has successfully lobbied the State Government and VicRoads for the recent installation of 22 lights at the intersection of Calder Park Drive and Calder Freeway.
