THE Romsey Birdies want this year's Lancefield and Macedon Ranges Relay for Life to be the biggest yet.
The team, made up mainly of golfers, wants to smash last year's fund-raising total of $5200.
All funds raised go to the Cancer Council for research and support services to help people affected by cancer.
Relay for Life, to be held on March 3-4, is a community event to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have died, and fight the disease by raising funds.
Beryl Cole, one of 14 members of the Romsey Birdies, says the team has been taking part in the Relay for Life for nine years, one short of the 10 years the event has been running in the Macedon Ranges.
"Because it's the 10th year of the relay, the [organising] committee wanted to make it big and we support the committee in their endeavour.
"Some members of our team have been affected by cancer personally and so have their friends and relatives.
"As a whole, the community has helped the golf club in its fund-raising efforts and this is a way we can give back to the town."
The Romsey Birdies are holding a charity golf day on February 19 to help kick off their fund-raising.
The four-player ambrose will be held at Romsey Golf Club and includes 12 holes, a 'straightest drive', 'nearest the pins' and other novelty events.
Entry fee is $80 per team of four or $20 per person and includes a barbecue lunch.
Entries close on February 10.
