A GROUP of Macedon Ranges and Sunbury youths will shave and colour their hair next month in memory of their late friend and cousin.
Romsey resident Brooke Cairns, 18, said the group had decided the time was right to take part in The Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave campaign, from March 11-13.
Damian Ryan, Adam Neyland, Andrew McFarlane, Paul Smith, Mark Lever and Braydon Cairns will shave their heads, while
several others will colour their hair.
Brooke said the group was motivated to get involved
after Andrew's cousin, Jaymie Cehner- Oliver, passed away in January after a battle with leukaemia.
"He was only 17, so he is the main reason we decided raise the money," she said.
"I previously raised money in 2004 and figured it would be a good idea to do it again."
The group, who will chop their locks at the Romsey Community Hub on March 13, had originally hoped to raise $1000.
"We have raised almost $4000 now, so that kind of blew me away a bit. Everyone has really pulled together," Brooke said.
Funds raised will help the Leukaemia Foundation to continue providing practical care and support to patients and families living with leukaemias and related blood disorders.
