THE Kyneton Theatre Company cast and crew have been honing their flying broomstick skills in preparation for a musical take on
The Witches Of Eastwick.
Set in the sleepy New England town of Eastwick, the production follows not-so-wicked divorcee witches Alexandra Spofford, Sukie Rougemont and Jane Smart, who are feeling trapped in their everyday lives.
One stormy night, they make a crazy wish for a man to make their own, but their wish has consequences they could never have dreamed of.
Director and Sunbury resident Rhiannon Sheriff said the musical signalled a new direction for the theatre company.
"We've done musicals before, but this one is a bit sexier and a bit more raunchy. There are more special effects. We have the witches actually flying and some magic bits and pieces, which makes it a lot more fun."
The 17 local cast members have been rehearsing for three months for the production.
Ms Sheriff said the production promised to offer its audience a unique take on a wicked story.
"It has a good assortment of rock music and softer Disney numbers as well. If you want to see something different, come to see our show."
The Witches of Eastwick is on at the Bluestone Theatre, Hutton Street, Kyneton, from October 2 to 24. Tickets: adults $20, concession $15. Bookings: 54221083.
