MACEDON Ranges emergency services crews have attended two separate car accidents in five days, prompting another appeal for drivers to be more vigilant on the roads.
Both accidents are believed to be fatigue-related.
Police said a 42-year-old Gisborne woman lost control of her car on a bend and hit a gum tree near Hobbs Road in Bullengarook about 7.50am on May 13.
The woman, who was the sole occupant, was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and treated for serious head injuries. She remains in a serious condition.
The second incident involved a Bullengarook man in his 20s who lost control of his car and hit a tree on Gisborne-Bacchus Marsh Road in Bullengarook about 12.13am on May 18.
Gisborne CFA captain Tony Wade said he believed fatigue was a major factor in the accident.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he was treated for minor leg injuries.
Leading Senior Constable Mark Tepper, of Gisborne's traffic management unit, said authorities were lucky not to be dealing with two fatalities on the same stretch of road.
"People need to make sure they have enough sleep and if they are tired, they need to pull over and have a power nap. It is important to recognise the warning signs."
Mr Wade called on drivers to slow down and take extra care.
"Police will investigate the causes. However, it is a timely reminder that accidents can and do happen at all times of the day. Our major message is for drivers to slow down on the roads."
