TWENTY new Macedon Ranges residents - one fewer than last year - will call Australia home when they take the pledge at a citizenship ceremony on Thursday.
Three children and 17 adults from NZ, Papua New Guinea, Switzerland, China, Germany, Canada and the UK will become Australians on Australia Day.
On Thursday, citizenship ceremonies will be held in Baynton, Gisborne, Kyneton, Tylden and Woodend.
Each person will be presented with a citizenship certificate, lapel pin, native plant and an Australian flag.
Kyneton
Australia Day ambassador Peter Ellyard will speak about what the national day means to him. RSVP is essential for the ceremony at the Kyneton Town Hall at 10.30am. Details: Debbie Peter, 54220313.
A breakfast by the Kyneton Lions Club will be from 8am-10am. Guests can watch the flag-raising ceremony and listen to a band. The event is at the Kyneton Mechanics Institute Reserve. Details: 0438286303.
Baynton
Entries are open for the Baynton Gift, which will be held from 6pm on Thursday. A community barbecue is on at the Baynton Hall. There will be children's activities and an Australian film will be screened. Details: Paul Dettmann, 0423944526.
Gisborne
From 9am-noon at John Aitken Reserve, the Gisborne Region Events Activities and Tourism Association will hold a free barbecue brunch, a flag-raising ceremony and entertainment, as well as best-decorated bicycle competition. Details: Phyllis Boyd, 0417059476.
