As summer stokes fire fears, hydrants get an overhaul

25 Aug, 2009 04:00 AM
FIRE hydrants in Macedon, Mount Macedon and Woodend will be overhauled as the Macedon Ranges prepares for the coming fire season.

The project will be conducted by Western Water, Macedon Ranges Council and the CFA.

Western Water managing director John Wilkinson said the threat of another dangerous fire season was driving the agencies to have emergency management infrastructure operating at their optimum.

"All hydrants in Macedon have been inspected to make sure they can be easily located, they are easily visible with correct markings and there are no impediments to accessing them in case of a fire."

Residents concerned about a fire hydrant in their area can contact Western Water, 1300650422.
