Artist turns to interiors

24 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
EXPRESSIONISM is the core of Woodend artist Robyn Clarke's work.

Her previous exhibition in Sydney and the Blue Mountains were influenced by jetties and beaches of Pittwater, and the fire-ravaged landscape of the Blue Mountains.

Now she lives in picturesque Woodend, and while she comes to terms with new landscapes, she has turned to painting expressionistic interiors focusing on a special theme, jugs.

This series forms the core of her exhibition in Woodend next month.

They are not any jugs, they reflect the antique eras of history.

Clarke says that despite her emphasis on abstraction of colour and form, there is something in this series which has forced her closer to realism.

Alongside Clarke's paintings are a small number of items from renowned ceramicist Noel Flood.

"I've always found Noel's work extraordinarily stimulating. It just brims with creativity," Clarke says.

The exhibition, at the Colenzo Gallery, 42 Ainslow Street, Woodend, runs from September 4-30.
