THOUSANDS of people braved cold and blustery conditions to walk to the Mt Macedon Memorial Cross and pay tribute to Australia's servicemen and women at the traditional dawn service on Anzac Day.
Woodend RSL president Reg Till said it was a very good turnout.
"Just looking around from my vantage point, I don't think the weather had any impact at all.
"It's great to see everyone all coming together because it is such a full-on thing and the area is just saturated with people.
"It's all put together and comes together well, which is great."
Mr Till paid tribute to Woodend RSL secretary/treasurer Eric Read, who played the role of MC, and the SES, CFA, Victoria Police, Parks Victoria, Macedon Ranges Council, schools and Scouts who made the day possible.
The annual dawn service, organised by the Macedon Ranges Joint Agencies Committee, attracts young and old, and this year received a special visit from Premier John Brumby, who laid a wreath at the cross.
