MACEDON Ranges towns are set to benefit from a tourism and advertising campaign to encourage more interstate visitors to Victoria.

The spa and wellbeing facilities of Daylesford and the surrounding Macedon Ranges towns and villages will be the focus of the three-year State Government campaign that was officially launched last week.

The $7.3million Australia-wide Live A Double Life campaign, starring Australian actress Isabel Lucas, includes television, cinema, magazine, newspapers and online advertising.

Daylesford and Macedon Ranges Tourism executive officer Graham Middleton said operators were delighted the region was the focus of the Victorian tourism campaign.

"It is a region where visitors can enjoy indulgence and go home 'purified' with a real sense of wellbeing."

Natasha Holgate, who operates Woodend's Holgate Brewhouse,

a key tourism drawcard for the region, welcomed the campaign.

"We get a lot of visitors from Melbourne and Bendigo but not a lot from interstate, so I think anything that targets that can only be a good thing," she said.

"I'd like to think if people travel from interstate to visit Daylesford, they may look around and see what is nearby and we will get that flow-on effect."

Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding said the region was the perfect vehicle to spearhead Victoria's tourism campaign over the next three years.

He said it would position Victoria as the nation's leading spa and health destination.

"Victoria's tourism industry is holding up well following the Black Saturday bushfires and the global financial crisis. This multi-million dollar advertising campaign will ensure Victoria is able to overcome these challenges."

The Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region attracted more than 1.7 million domestic visitors last year.
